Student Tips: Self-Care Edition

By the time this blog has been published, I will have already finished my second year of uni. Although I wouldn’t lie about the fact that for the past few weeks before I finally clicked the ‘submit’ button on Canvas, I have been under pressure for several nights. (In fact, I may have shed a tear or two. 🤔)

Anyways, I thought it would be a good idea to highlight the importance of self-care after weeks of stress. It’s always good to take a break to keep your body and mind from breaking down. So, I listed down some of my favourite things to do when winding down!

  1. Mindfulness meditation

It’s all too easy to rush through life without paying attention to your thoughts, which is why mindfulness meditation is so important. If you’ve never tried it before, now is a great time to do so.

When we become more aware of what is going on in our bodies and minds in the present moment, we can relive experiences and address any issues that may arise. You must remind yourself to pay attention to your thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations, as well as the world around you.

Does that make sense? Don’t be concerned! To get started, there are numerous online resources and apps available, such as Headspace and Calm.

2. Do some yoga

Yoga has numerous physical benefits, including increased flexibility, better posture and even increased self-esteem.

With so many different styles of yoga to choose from, such as Ashtanga, Lyengar and Sivananda, it’s important to figure out which one is right for you.

If you’ve never tried yoga before, there are plenty of beginner tutorials on YouTube that are ideal for practising in your luxury student accommodation.

3. Call your friends or family

A video with friends or family is a great way to put a smile on your face!

Students can experience severe loneliness, which is why it is critical to maintain contact with others. Of course, video calls/phone calls will never be as good as the real thing, but we must make the best of what we have.

Set up a Zoom quiz with your family or friends for some light entertainment.

4. Listen to your favourite music

Did you know that listening to your favourite song/artist can significantly improve your mood, making it a great quick fix for self-care.

Put on your headphones, turn on some music, and have fun.

5. Cook yourself something delicious

Nothing beats preparing a delicious meal for yourself to make you feel good!

Use the high-quality kitchens in your luxury accommodation to prepare delicious meals.

6. Get an early night/lie-in

Prepare to feel relaxed and recharged following an early night/lie-in, because there’s no better time to catch up on sleep after a stressful week, right? The best way to increase productivity is to feel refreshed and well rested.

Grab a hot chocolate, watch a movie, and go to bed early, or have a nice lie-in – whatever you prefer!

7. Watch your favourite show

Relax in your comfortable bed and watch your favourite television show, because nothing beats a Netflix binge.

Watching your favourite show can take your mind off things for a few hours, which is ideal for students who want to unwind after a stressful week.
