Life at UCB through the eyes of our international student bloggers

Graduation! 🎓

Graduation! 🎓

Hello everyone, hope you’re all doing well.

My journey at University College Birmingham has finally come to an end. The last two weeks were the graduation ceremonies for the class of 2020 and 2021 and I would like to first take the opportunity to say congratulations to all graduates! 🎉

The ceremony was held at the prestigious Symphony Hall and I had my graduation on 17 September, for the College of Food and Sport and Nutrition.

From being a home baker to graduating as a Bakery and Patisserie Technology student, to becoming a pastry chef. I could never achieve that much without the support from all the lecturers, staff, family and friends. I would like to say a big thank you to you all, especially the bakery lecturers and my family who supported me all the way to who I am now.

Looking back three years ago when I first came to the UK, I never thought that I would be able to learn and gain loads of valuable experience. I’m sure that all the lessons and knowledge I learned will be helpful for the upcoming chapters in my life.

.

If someone asks me what advice I would give to students, my answer would always be: “chase your wildest dreams”. My younger self would never imagine that I would be doing what I’m doing now. I did make a bold decision to come to study this course and was determined to spend all the time and effort. The journey wasn’t particularly easy, I had to live in a new country alone, with English as my second language, overcome homesickness, learn to step out of my comfort zone… but I never regretted it and all these experiences helped me to become a better self. I am glad that I met countless nice people who helped me on my way, it’s impossible for me to mention all the names but I would like to say thank you again for everything.

I also had a wonderful university life, although it was unexpected to have a pandemic during my time here. One of the things that I enjoyed most was working as a student ambassador and UCBlogger since I love the opportunity to meet new people and share my uni life with others.

It was a shame that many of my coursemates weren’t able to come back to attend the ceremony because of the pandemic, and I also didn’t manage to take picture with my lecturers. But anyway, it was a delightful and unforgettable day for sure.

I can now say that I am officially graduated from the course BSc (Hons) Bakery and Patisserie Technology with First Class Honours!

“Dear all graduates:

It has been a challenging year and you all worked hard to come so far, you should be proud of what you have achieved!”

See you next week!
