In life, the journey is just as important as the destination.
I think a lot of students need to hear this. I know some students feel like they are falling behind, and everything is a competition, but it doesn’t always have to be like that. You are not falling behind, you are moving at your own pace. You are allowed to move according to your own pace. It’s not a competition if you are able to find other opportunities elsewhere and trust me, there are a lot of opportunities available if you know where to find them or if you care enough to find them.
As Robert Fulghum said, “The grass is not, in fact, always greener on the other side of the fence. The grass is greenest where it is watered.”
We’re constantly comparing ourselves to other people’s lives, wishing to have what they have. We often forget to live our life. Not everyone has the same destination as you and even if they did, not everyone goes through the same journey as you to get to the destination. You may have to go over a bridge while others go through a long stretch of road. What may seem as a brick wall to others may seem as a hurdle to you. Even with obstacles, everyone faces it differently.
We should spend more time working towards our own goals, to go on the journey that we have the complete power and control over. Spend more time on what we can control instead of worrying over something that is out of our control. Be grateful of the things we currently have in our life and try to make our journey as enjoyable as we can because we are humans. We should live and cherish the present as much as we look forward to the future.
