The Boys: The Review

The Boys: The Review

As mentioned a couple weeks ago I wanted to binge-watch the tv series The Boys. And I did!

The Boys is produced by amazon, making it an amazon original series (rated R).  It is based on an american comic book by the same name (The comic book was created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson). The series premired on July 26, 2019. There are 8 episodes with each having a run time of 45 minutes on average.

Hughie Campbell’s (Jack Quaid) girlfriend gets killed by a superhero. Her death is marked as a casualty of the superhero saving the world… or something. Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) meets Hughie to explain that the superhero folk are grossly abusing their power and it is his job to pull them into line every now and then – just to remind them that they are not as invincible and powerful as they believe to be.

Saying anything else would contain great spoilers so I’ll just have you watch it. In its essence, the series shows that squeaky clean is no good. The tropes we love & hate from movies about superheros are put to the test. Relationships are broken and mended over the 8 episodes that have been delivered so far. Interesting characters introduced and their backstories built to blossom much more in the upcoming season 2.

The show does not look under-budgeted either. The effects are questionable at times, yes; however that’s happening very rarely.

Overall the Boys is excellent. You can easily binge-watch this in one day – without being bored. If you find it to your liking you will also like to know that the show has been renewed for season 2 – ahead of it’s premiere!
